Sustainable Port Development
Maritime transport and ports are essential components of international trade and goods movement. Ships represent one of the largest, most difficult to regulate sources of air and water pollution in the world.
As the traffic in the ports in the Association of the South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) region is continuing to grow, port authorities and operators start to be concerned about the impact of their activities on the environment and nearby communities.
The project Sustainable Port Development in the ASEAN Region has the principal objective to assist ASEAN ports in shifting the emphasis from mere reactive complying with minimum standards to a pro-active approach with capacities and competencies to achieve and maintain quality and sustainability in Safety Health and Environmental management. The project is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
